Well, here we are nearing the end of the
journey. This was the last full day of vacation for me, since I would
be leaving the next day to go home. Everyone else had another 10 days
to go...
We planned today as a driving around day, with the goal that we had to
reach Bunratty Castle by 6pm to check into our B&B before attending
a medieval banquet. We decided to do a loop around the
Dingle Peninsula. The
scenery was quite a bit different from Beara. There were a lot more
high cliffs overlooking the ocean, and the roads were much straighter.
Check out how small these subdivided fields are. Each cow has its own
pasture!
Now it was my turn to drive, so I don't have too much to say. We drove
up towards Shannon, which is where my flight would leave from the next
day. N & M were gracious enough to buy us tickets to a
Medieval banquet
at
Bunratty
Castle, which was very close to Shannon. (Thanks again guys!)
It was a pretty cool banquet. No utensils were allowed except for a
knife, and they kept our pitchers of wine nice and full ;) They had a
group of ladies-in-waiting, who served the meal and provided us with
musical entertainment. It was quite a bit different from the type
of stuff they have at Medieval Times or the Excalibur in Vegas
(especially since we were eating in a castle that dates from the
1400s!) It was a great way to spend my last night in
Ireland.
